The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) invites Tribes and tribal communities, stakeholders, and interested members of the public to join the first of two webinars to learn about the state’s efforts to develop a list of priority fisheries as directed by the 2018 Master Plan for Fisheries: A Guide for the Implementation of the Marine Marine Life Management Act (2018 Master Plan). Prioritizing state-managed fisheries will support the Department in focusing limited resources on the fisheries with the greatest management needs and maximizing resource and ecosystem benefits.

Update on Conducting Ecological Risk Assessments and
Discussion on Draft Socioeconomic and Climate Factors

This webinar builds upon projects conducted during the Marine Life Management Act (MLMA) Master Plan Amendment process that many have helped to inform by participating in public webinars, workshops and meetings, and by reviewing draft materials. During the webinar, the Department will provide an overview of their work to move from an interim priority list in the Master Plan to a draft priority list for all of the state’s vertebrate species and three invertebrate species that considers a more comprehensive evaluation of the risk of fishing to the ecosystem (target species, habitat, and bycatch) using an Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA). Participants will also be invited to review and provide feedback on draft socioeconomic and climate criteria to help refine the draft priority list.
Information about the upcoming webinar, key resources, and meeting materials will be posted on the CDFW Marine Management News (here), so be sure to check back regularly. We also look forward to emailing an agenda and additional resources in advance of the webinar.
While an RSVP is not required, please send a participation response to firstname.lastname@example.org.
