San Diego Chapter

San Diego serves as one of the greatest sportfishing capitals of the world, and CCA has a big footprint here. Our San baede547619cab072a272d1feacef8f4 Diego chapter participates in many different events that go on throughout the year including the annual BD Outdoors Offshore Shootout, an installment of our Battle of the Bays tournament, and volunteer at many Youth Fishing events.

Helped initiate the Freedom to Fish campaign to stop the arbitrary implementation of no-fishing zones (National 2000).

Outlawed gill, trammel nets (Texas 1990).

Won game fish status for redfish (Florida 1988).

Obtained game fish status for marlin, sailfish (National 1988).

Helped Pass Legislation To Phase Out Drift Gill Nets In California (SB 1017)

Broke the $2 million mark in college and graduate scholarships awarded (Texas 2004).

Successfully led opposition to closing Gray’s Reef to recreational fishing (Georgia 2000).

Won game fish status for redfish, speckled trout (South Carolina 1986).

Prohibited trawling for trout (Texas 1978).

Defeated A State Lead Ban (AB 2787) in 2018

Fought To Keep Bluefin Tuna From Being Listed As An Endangered Species in 2017

Banned drift gill nets in South Atlantic (National 1990).

Launched Gulf-wide phone number – 866-WE ENFORCE – to report coastal game violations (Louisiana 2001).

Funded $700,000 for construction of a state-of-the-art marine larviculture research lab (Texas 2007).
