The CCA Channel Islands Chapter held their first-ever Channel Islands Rockfish Challenge last weekend, and the fishing definitely showed up for it.

Almost 30 anglers came out and competed for the biggest Vermillion, Lingcod, Sheephead and other rockfish. The weigh in was held at Channel Islands Sportfishing where boats can pull up to weigh in their fish. Congratulations to the following winners of our Rockfish Challenge:

Biggest Vermillion – Paul Gross – 6#

Biggest Lingcod – Finbarr Walsh – 12.1#

Biggest Sheephead – Bill Edmonds – 11.9#

Biggest Other – Kevin Shiotani – 4.9# Salmon Grouper

The Rockfish Challenge was created as a replacement fundraiser for the chapter’s annual Live in the 805 banquet held at Channel Islands Yacht Club every year. This event, like Live in the 805, benefits the Coastal Conservation Association California (CCA CAL) in our efforts to fight for our rights to continue to fish in California.

CCA CAL would like to thank Channel Islands Sportfishing for their generosity and for hosting the CCA Channel Islands Chapter for our weigh in. Also, thank you to everyone who participated in the 2020 Rockfish Challenge! Make sure to visit our photo gallery to view all of the pictures from the day.
